This is the most challenging area for me currently.  The process of incorporating human form onto textured background surfaces using paint and found materials. I am continually working on drawing and observation skills to improve my paintings. I  attend "life drawing" sessions with the Austin Visual Artists and "figurative painting" sessions  with the Austin Figurative Project and Nightmoves Art at the Pumphouse Project.

The found materials of metal, glass, wood and bone were initially created to serve a specific form or function. These materials become incorporated into a new environment and purpose as elements of composition and texture. I use the object as another raw material to create a sense of depth and geography in the painting. I am aware and respectful of the worn wood, rusted metal, cracked glass and the experiential presence it contributes to the composition.

Water, the ocean, visual color, movement, sound all contribute a serenity and peacefulness to me in their presence. So my paintings are attempts to bring this ambience with me wherever I am.
